Where did brush calligraphy originate? West? NO! In the Far East! Yes!

Brush calligraphy is primarily an art that was practiced by the Chinese & Japanese for thousands of years – that’s why you can see some of these pens having Japanese names & inscriptions on them.

Chinese calligraphy mainly involved the use of brushes and inks to draw characters onto animal bones. This was a ritual done to seek prosperity in military affairs, agricultural harvest, or even procreating and weather. Chinese calligraphy gave way to Japanese, Korean and Mongolian scripts.

Brush pens were primarily created to imitate a real brush and to reduce the hassle of dipping in ink and make it more convenient for artists and designers to create more efficiently without worrying about ink blotches and splatter.

Believe it or not, some of the popular brush pens were actually created for primary school children!

Using brush pens to create beautiful works of hand-lettering is a fairly recent development adopted by Western calligraphers, fueled by social media, it has become a sort of movement.

For many it is a hobby, meditation, a source of enjoyment and escape from the mundane routine of life, for others it has become a secondary source of income.

You can create beautiful calligraphy for greeting cards, invitations, bookmarks, framed quotes, restaurant menus, wedding welcome boards, and the list is endless only limited by your imagination!
